Our Story

Feeding Nashville was started in an effort to help our Nashville neighbors after the 2020 tornado and ongoing health and financial crises from COVID-19, leaving many hungry and restaurants struggling to stay afloat. Our goal was to help put food on the tables of those in need while supporting local chefs and restaurants. Over the course of one year, we were able to provide food for over 70,000 families and individuals in Nashville, including 19,000 front-line nurses at St. Thomas and Vanderbilt. We accomplished this all while providing stable employment to 9 local chefs and hospitality professionals.

As the needs in our city have changed throughout the course of the pandemic, we’ve continued to seek out more creative and effective ways to operate. By donating meals to schools, nonprofits, medical facilities, and organizations grounded in communities experiencing need, we are ensuring that nutritious food is going to those who most need it.

Accessibility: Healthy food should be accessible to everyone. We are actively working to increase access to healthy foods through our distribution models and collaborative partnerships.

Community: We seek partners in addressing nutritional insecurity and advocating for sustainable solutions in every community.

Responsibility: We strive to be a socially responsible organization, regularly reviewing and structuring our internal processes to reduce food waste, minimize our carbon footprint, and track the unintended impact of our work.

Education: Our relationship with food impacts every other aspect of our daily lives. We are committed to providing simple educational resources with an awareness of diversity in culture, demographics, and stage of life.

Leadership: We will pursue bold initiatives. We aim to model leadership by serving our neighbors experiencing nutritional insecurity through collaborative partnerships, interdisciplinary solutions, and innovation.
